PENNSYLVANIA’S FINANCIAL WATCHDOG

MEET TIM DEFOOR

Twice elected by Pennsylvania voters in 2020 and again in 2024, Tim DeFoor has earned the trust of the people by doing the job he promised to do: protect taxpayers, follow the law, and bring real accountability to state government.

When Tim first ran for Auditor General, he brought more than 30 years of experience in auditing, fraud investigation, and law enforcement. He pledged to take the politics out of audits and focus on what matters: protecting public dollars and restoring trust. Since taking office in 2021, that is exactly what he has done.

DELIVERING RESULTS FOR PENNSYLVANIA

Tim leads an office that conducts more than 3,500 audits each year. Under his leadership, these audits are now more targeted, efficient, and effective. By focusing on risk and real vulnerabilities, not just checking boxes, his team ensures taxpayers get maximum value and minimum waste.

He has also transformed the way school audits are done. From public to charter to cyber schools, his office has brought clarity, consistency, and accountability to the process.

Tim has taken his message across the state, meeting with educators, community leaders, and industry experts from Erie to Scranton and Westmoreland County to Philadelphia. One of his top priorities is promoting financial literacy through the “Be Money Smart” initiative to help prepare the next generation of Pennsylvanians for real-world financial success.

“Good government isn’t about politics. It’s about protecting people. Since taking office in 2021, I’ve tracked down waste, fraud and abuse so your tax dollars go where they belong.”  -Tim DeFoor

A TRUSTED WATCHDOG WITH REAL EXPERIENCE

Tim’s career began in public service, investigating fraud and abuse in state government. He served as a Special Investigator in the Office of Inspector General, then as a Special Agent in the Attorney General’s Office, tracking Medicaid fraud and prescription drug abuse. He later worked in the private sector as an internal auditor and fraud investigator for leading healthcare systems and federal oversight agencies.

In 2015, Tim was elected Dauphin County Controller, where he recovered more than $1 million in taxpayer dollars and created the county’s first Audit Division. He also led a complete overhaul of the county’s financial reporting process, earning its first award for transparency from the Government Finance Officers Association.

“I will always fight for Pennsylvania families, seniors, and small businesses. That means lower taxes, better jobs, stronger schools, and a lower cost of living for everyone.”  -Tim DeFoor

MOVING PENNSYLVANIA FORWARD

Tim’s first term was about reform, modernization, and restoring trust. His second term is about finishing the job and keeping government accountable.

Pennsylvania taxpayers work too hard to settle for waste and politics. Tim DeFoor is working for them with discipline, focus, and results that matter.
